Adriene Moellering

CANTON – Adriene Moellering. Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend peacefully passed away on Aug. 30, 2013. Over the last several years she battled illness, but today she is dancing with the love of her life.

Adriene was born to Jules and Elizabeth (Van den Bulka) DeBacker on May 10, 1926, in Rock, Mich. From the woods of the Upper Peninsula, Jules brought his family to rural Belleville, Mich.

On the family farm, Adriene did chores from feeding the pigs to selling the produce along the road and enjoyed riding her horse, Babe. Adriene played hard and worked hard. In 1944 she graduated from Belleville High School .

Adriene met the adventurous Heinz Moellering and was married on May 28, 1948. Together they had three children and raised an active family. A love story began and continues even after death.

Always at the side of her husband, they started a small business in their chicken coop and grew it to what is now a large corporation with over 900 employees.

While raising her family, Adriene even took the challenge to manage one of the factories – all while keeping the company’s finances and books. She was a respected business woman!

Adriene did not accept the normal boundaries for a woman. Adriene and Heinz were always together. Together with their children, she enjoyed flying and became a pilot. At the age of 60, she had the rare opportunity to take the controls of a T38 jet fighter and made the news. She also enjoyed boating, skiing, backpacking, mountain climbing, and reading.

Survivors include three children, Daniel (Mary) Moellering of Petoskey, Sharon (Martin) Brooks of Novi and David (Ellen) Moellering of Orchard Lake;

nine grandchildren, Jeremy Moellering of Farmington Hills, Dan (Jocelyn) Moellering of Rochester Hills, Caroline Moellering of Colorado, Michael (Heather) Stith of Arizona, Marianne (Seth) Rock of Harbor Springs, Matthew (Shelly) Stith of North Carolina, Kristina (Jeff) LeBreton of Illinois, Jeff (Judy) Stith of North Carolina and Kim Moellering of Illinois; and five great-grandchildren with two more soon to be born; one sister, Madelyn (Leon) Vercruysse of Boyne City; one sister-in-law, Anna Lore Papatriantafyllou of Warren; and one brother-in-law, Herb (Carol) Trute of Grosse Pointe.
