Camille J. Rabitoy
GLADSTONE – Camille J. Rabitoy, 79, of 616 N. 14th St., Gladstone, Mich., passed away Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Camille was born March 24, 1934, in Gladstone, the daughter of Peter and Lucy (Gregory) Rabitoy. She was raised in Gladstone where she was a 1952 graduate of Gladstone High School. She continued her education in nursing at the St. Francis School of Nursing in Peoria, Ill., where she received her B.S. degree in nursing. She later received her M.A. in education from NMU.
Camille’s nursing and teaching career included working for the Delta County Health Department, Surgical Floor at St. Francis Hospital and Dr. Gagne at University Hospital in Madison. She retired from teaching in 1995 from Bay De Noc College where she taught nursing. While at Bay College she was the president of the Faculty Association and Division Chair for Allied Health.
Camille was a very active member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. She taught Adult Education, was a leader for the Little Rock Scripture Study, team member of RCIA, served on the Community Service Commission, active with the Cursillo Movement, and a commissioned lay minister.
Camille was a volunteer for Hospice, St. Vincent DePaul and active in the Delta County Genealogical Association. She enjoyed working with her flowers and plants and watching birds. Camille will be remembered for her generosity and expected nothing in return.
Survivors include many cousins, including her special cousin, Phyllis Mackie of Escanaba and her adopted family of 35 years, Dawn and Ben Loftis of Washington and their family. She was a special mother and grandmother to the Loftis family.
In addition to her parents, her twin sister, Christine J. Rabitoy on Feb. 11, 2000, preceded Camille in death.
Camille’s family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 5 p.m. at the All Saints Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Burial will take place at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone are assisting the Rabitoy family.
