Lawrence ‘Larry’ Joseph Benson

ESCANABA – Lawrence “Larry” Joseph Benson, 58, of Escanaba, passed away unexpectedly at Marquette General Hospital around 4 p.m. on Aug. 31,2013.

Lawrence was born on Sept. 6, 1954, in Menominee at St. Joseph Lloyd Hospital to Kenneth and the late Olive Benson.

Larry graduated from North Central High School in Powers. He then worked for Hubert Giguere Logging for many years and a few other logging companies after. In 1995 he worked for Terri Cheeseboro’s Farm and Willie Grondines Farm. His last place of employment was with St. Vincent DePaul and also at Holy Name School as a substitute janitor.

Larry was the biggest Lions fan of all time. He was also very active in attending Michigan sporting events and watching the games. He really enjoyed spending time with his daughter and granddaughters. He was also a member of the Silverwinds Church as an usher.

Survivors include his father, Kenneth Benson of Marquette; daughter, Cynthia Benson of Ishpeming; sister, Tammy (David) Rupp of Canton, Mich.; brother, Charles (Brenda) Benson of Powers; two grandchildren, Madisson Benson, Hannah Benson; two nieces, and two nephews, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Olive Benson.

Visitation will be held at Silver Winds Church in Escanaba on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. Private gathering to follow for immediate family after the service.

Fassbender Funeral Home and Silver Winds Church are assisting the Benson family with the arrangements.
