Man drowns in Lake Superior
MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP – The body of a 19-year-old Detroit man was recovered from Lake Superior on Sunday, according to Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post.
Kenny Rubbet was swimming with three other young adults on the north side of Little Presque Isle when he was unable to reach land, said troopers in a news release. Others in the group attempted to assist Rubbet but were unable due to the onset of rough water conditions.
Troopers were dispatched to the scene at 3 p.m. for a possible drowning. The Marquette County Sheriff Department Dive Team located the victim in approximately 25 feet of water. Rubbet was transported to Marquette General Hospital where efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, according to the news release.
Assisting at the scene were personnel from Marquette General Emergency Medical Services, Marquette Township Fire Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
