Timothy Peter Barron
ST. NICHOLAS – Timothy Peter Barron, 68, passed away Wednesday morning, Sept. 11, 2013, at home following a lengthy illness.
Tim, the son of the late Peter and Mary (Heynssens) Barron, was born July 6, 1945, in Escanaba. He was raised on the family farm in St. Nicholas and graduated as class valedictorian from Rock High School in 1963. Following graduation, Tim attended Michigan Technological University and Bay College and he also served his country in the Michigan National Guard.
Tim was united in marriage to the former Linda Porath on Sept. 28, 1968, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins. They made their home in St. Nicholas where they raised their seven children. He owned and operated Tim Barron Potato Farm and Tim Barron Construction.
Tim was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served in many capacities as Parish Council President, Picnic Chairman, C.C.D. teacher, Eucharistic Minister and Lector.
Tim also served on the Mid Peninsula School Board for several years and on the Soil Conservation District.
Tim’s hobbies included reading, mowing, gardening, hunting and relaxing at “The Shack.”
He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.
In addition to his wife, Linda, of 44 years survivors include: children, Tim (Renee) Barron of St. Nicholas, Chris (Jill) Barron of Escanaba, Shannon (Matt) Merlo of Port Washington, Wis., Jeremy (Brandin) Barron of Escanaba, Michelle (David) Robinson of Perkins, Amber (Gary) Dubord of Escanaba and Ryan Barron of St. Nicholas; mother, Mary Heitman of Gladstone; mother-in-law, Lorraine Porath of Perkins; brother, Jim (Carolyn) Barron of St. Nicholas; sisters, Nancy (Dave) Skoog of Marquette, Janet (Ray) Stewart of Ripon, Wis., and Diane (Jim) Berlier of Crystal Lake, Ill.; and 18 grandchildren, Ty, Mitch, C.J., Savannah, Bailey, Zach, Karley, Matty, Mikey, Tristyn, J.P., Brody, Gunnar, Maxwell, Joey, Laila, London and Landin.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, Peter Barron; father-in-law, Wally Porath; brother-in-law, Michael Porath; stepfather, Ernest Heitman; and niece, Katie Berlier.
Tim’s family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 13, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. The Barron family will recite the Rosary at 5:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Church in Perkins.
Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo, Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Joseph Church Parish Hall. Committal rites will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the St. Nicholas Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the Barron family requests that memorial contributions in memory of Tim be directed to the family to offset his medical expenses.
