Zella M. Barcome

GLADSTONE – Zella M. Barcome, 80, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at her home in Gladstone.

Zella was born Jan. 18, 1933, in Munising, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Bingman) Fleming. As a child, she was raised and attended school in Munising, Manistique and Escanaba. On Aug. 31, 1951, Zella was united in marriage to Basil Barcome and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Escanaba. In addition to raising her family, Zella was employed at F.W. Woolworth Retail Store and the former Tim and Sally’s Restaurant in Escanaba. She enjoyed cooking, baking, reading and writing. Zella was also an exceptional, humble artist and enjoyed spending time with her loving family.

She will be deeply missed.

Zella is survived by her husband, Basil; son, Basil (Laurie) Barcome of Denmark, Wis.; daughters, Wanda (Steve) Makosky of Bark River, Deborah Barcome of Manistique; brothers, Frank (Carol) Fleming of Davison, Mich., Michael (Sue) Fleming of Gladstone; sisters, Carole Gould of Manistique, Mary Lee (Allen) Desjarden of Manistique, Kathy (Jim) Osterhout of Wyoming. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Zella was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Catherine; daughter, Valerie Maki; brothers, Don Springer and William Fleming; sisters, Wanda Fleming and Kim Thielman; brother-in-law, Richard Gould.

Zella’s family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home, 706 Wisconsin Ave., Gladstone, Mich. 49837. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Zella M. Barcome will follow visiting hours at 4 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski of the All Saints Church officiating. Luncheon will follow funeral services at the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Zella will be laid to rest, privately, in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
