Eugene ‘Gene’ Mleczewski
MARQUETTE – Eugene “Gene” Mleczewski, 87, supportive husband, respected father and proud grandfather passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette, Mich., where he resided.
Eugene was born June 21, 1926, in Detroit, the son of John and Della (Olszewski) Mleczewski. He entered the Army in 1944 and served his country proudly during World War II. He was honorably discharged in 1947 as a decorated veteran, receiving numerous medals, ribbons and citations. Eugene was united in marriage to Rosemarie Moses on Oct. 9, 1954, in Detroit. Eugene worked for Conrail as a railroad conductor for many years and was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed painting, loved dogs and was a lifetime member of the Romanowski VFW Post 6896.
Eugene is survived by three sons, Eugene (Diana) Mleczewski of Las Vegas, Nev., Kenneth (Jan) Mleczewski of Cheboygan, Mich., and Mark (Lisa) Mleczewski of Rapid River, Mich., and four grandchildren, Robert, Heather, Benjamin and Marcus.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie; his parents and two brothers, John “Whitey” Mleczewski and Leonard “Lenny Malek” Mleczewski.
A Catholic memorial service to celebrate the life of Eugene will be held on Monday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone, Mich., with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. The Mleczewski family requests that memorial contributions be made to your local Humane Society, in memory of Eugene .
