James Norman Tebear
ESCANABA – James Norman Tebear, 77, passed away Sunday afternoon, Sept. 22, 2013, at his home in Escanaba, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born June 21, 1936, in Escanaba, the son of Norman and Nyda (Johnson) Tebear. He was raised in Escanaba and attended St. Joseph and Escanaba schools. On April 13, 1954, Jim enlisted in the United States Army, serving in France with the Corp. of Engineers until his honorable discharge in April of 1957. Throughout his enlistment, Jim received medals of accommodation which include, the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his discharge, Jim returned to Escanaba. On Oct. 24, 1970, Jim was united in marriage to the former Sandra Eis and together the couple made their home and raised their family in Escanaba. Jim was a self-employed milkman over the course of his working years. He loved to spend time outdoors hunting, working in the woods and going to camp. He will be deeply missed.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; sons, John Tebear of DePere, Jeff (Cassie) Tebear of Christmas; daughters, Linda Tebear of Hannahville, Susan Tebear of Wisconsin, Sherry (Mike) Robinson of Minnesota; brother, Robert (Barb) Tebear of Escanaba; David Tebear of Wilson; sister, Valerie Kivioja of Ishpeming, mother-in-law, Abigail Eis of Escanaba; brother-in-law, Chris (Jean) Eis of Escanaba.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Nyda; sons, Greg and Mark Tebear; brother, Gerald Tebear; sisters, Marilyn Waugh, Theresa Besson; father-in-law, Joseph “Buster” Eis.
Jim’s family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 5:45 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Military rites will follow visiting hours at 5:45 p.m. at the Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba, by the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post 71. Funeral services to celebrate the life of James Norman Tebear will follow military rites at 6 p.m. with Pastor Judy Kincaid of the Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Escanaba. Jim will be laid to rest on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
