County board member announces plans to resign

ESCANABA – The Delta County Board of Commissioners is searching for candidates to fill a vacant position the board will have this December.

At Tuesday’s county board meeting, Commissioner Ryan Holm announced plans to resign from the county board at the first meeting in December.

Holm is resigning since he will be moving out of the county to Sheboygan, Wis.

“It’s been a pleasure working with you Ryan, and I wish you the best,” said Board Vice-Chair Mary Harrington, following Holm’s announcement.

“Ryan’s going to move on to bigger and better things and we wish him well,” added Board Chairman Tom Elegeert.

Following the meeting, Holm said he will miss serving the people of Delta County.

“I’ve enjoyed serving on the board and all of the things that we’ve done as a county – thinking outside the box – to move ahead,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed working with community leaders and concerned citizens and just trying to better things for the community.”

Once Holm vacates his position in December, the board will have 30 days to appoint someone to fill the vacancy.

All residents in the city of Gladstone and precincts 1 and 3 of Escanaba Township are eligible to apply. Applications and resumes can be turned into the Delta County Administration Office, 310 Ludington St., Escanaba, Mich., 49829, no later than 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 15.

The board will then set up interviews with interested candidates to begin working on filling the vacancy.
