H. Lloyd Johnson

ESCANABA – H. Lloyd Johnson, 83, of 1914 7th Ave. S., Escanaba, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at his home.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1929, in Escanaba and was the son of Felix and Isabelle (Mattson) Johnson. He attended school in Escanaba and was a member of the graduating Class of 1947. Following high school, Lloyd joined his father in the family business of cattle buying and transportation throughout Michigan and Wisconsin. He eventually became the proprietor of the business and remained there for over 60 years.

On June 11, 1949, H. Lloyd Johnson married the former Elaine Lindquist in Escanaba.

Lloyd was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Escanaba. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by: wife, Elaine of 64 years of Escanaba; nine children, Joanne Johnson of Detroit, Jean (Louie) Balduc of Ironwood, Ron (Sherry) Johnson of Escanaba, Judy Johnson of Escanaba, Janet Johnson of Silver Spring, Md., Gary (Sue) Johnson of Cornell, Steve (Dawn) Johnson of Escanaba, Bill (Lulu) Johnson of Escanaba and Jenny (Chris) Engstrom of Marquette; 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Felix and Isabelle.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba.

Funeral services celebrating the life of H. Lloyd Johnson will follow at 4 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donna Minarik of the Central United Methodist Church officiating.

A luncheon will be served at the First United Methodist Church at the conclusion of the service. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

Those wishing to offer a memorial in Lloyd’s honor are kindly asked to consider the Central United Methodist Church or the Delta County 4-H program.
