Richard ‘Dick’ Anderson

WELLS – Richard “Dick” Anderson, 79, of Wells passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Dick was born Oct. 2, 1934, in Wells, the son of Louis and Elsie (Klemp) Anderson. He was raised in Wells and attended and graduated from the Escanaba High School in 1954.

Following his years in high school, Dick went to work for the Harnischfeger Corporation and worked there until he retired in 1983. He was united in marriage to Gladys Pinar on July 28, 1956, at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wells.

Dick was a member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved the outdoors, hunting, going to camp, gardening and making firewood. He also enjoyed visiting with his “coffee clutch” friends at McDonalds and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings and the Michigan Wolverines.

Dick is survived by his wife, Gladys of Wells; two daughters, Cyndee (Keith) Plouff of Soo Hill, and Lynn (Randy) Hill of Pahrump, Nev.; two grandchildren, Joe (Mary) Plouff and Amy Plouff; a sister, Emily Laukkanen of Rock; a brother, Donald Anderson of Escanaba and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elsie; two sisters, Mildred Stemac and Betty DesJarden; and five brothers, Lawrence, Carl, Robert, Chester and infant brother, Aug.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Oct. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Skradski Family Funeral Home in Escanaba. Parish prayers will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Wells with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Fr. Parrotta Hall. Dick will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wells or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
