Arrests made in interstate heroin investigation
MENOMINEE – Three people have been arrested in Menominee and Marinette counties following investigation into an interstate heroin trafficking investigation late last week.
Officers from the Menominee County Wide Drug Enforcement Team and the Northeast Tri-County Drug Enforcement Team conducted the investigation Oct. 17 and 18.
The investigation led to the following arrests: a 21-year-old female from Menominee for a probation violation; a 28 year-old female from Menominee for possession with intent to deliver heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia; and a 26-year-old male from Marinette, Wis. for possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a drug vehicle. Names are not being released pending the issuance of formal charges from the prosecutor’s offices in Marinette and Menominee.
During the past four years, there has been a significant increase in illegal drug activity – specifically heroin – in the Menominee and Marinette areas, said Marks.
Local police chiefs, sheriffs and prosecuting attorneys have been sharing information and resources to try to stop illegal drugs from coming into the region, he added.
This summer, cooperative police efforts resulted in the arrest of 15 individuals on charges of delivery of heroin, maintaining a drug house or a drug vehicle, and possession of heroin with intent to deliver.
