Marjorie Ann ‘Midge‘ Dutton
RAPID RIVER – Marjorie Ann “Midge” Dutton, 67, of 8255 26.7 Lane, Rapid River, Mich., passed away at the University of Michigan Hospital’s Burn Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. She was born Aug. 31, 1946, in Oakland, Calif., and was the daughter of John and Louise (Tipton) Chapman. Midge graduated from Oakland High School and then married Richard “Dick” Dutton, who was serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, on Dec. 13, 1965. They moved back to Rapid River in 1966 and she was employed as a music teacher at the Rapid River School. She and her husband also owned and operated Orbit Satellite Systems. She later worked at many different businesses in this area as a bookeeper.
Midge was an avid reader and enjoyed painting, music, and riding horses. She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Isabella, served on the church council, was a member of the U.P. Endurance Horse Riding Club, the U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association and was involved with 4-H.
Marjorie Ann “Midge” Dutton is survived by: husband, Richard “Dick” Dutton of Rapid River, Mich.; sons, Robert Bruce (Mari) Dutton of Clinton, Iowa, and James Edward “Jamie” Dutton of the U.S. Army stationed in Afghanistan; four grandchildren, Chloe, Christopher, Scott and Carys “Tepper”; brothers, Stephen (Mary) Chapman of California; sister-in-law, Deanna Dutton of Rapid River; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jon Dutton.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River. Funeral services celebrating the life of Marjorie Ann “Midge” Dutton will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. David Hueter, Rev. Stephen Gauger, Rev. Gerald Beach and Rev. Steven Schmidt officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral serves in the Calvary Lutheran Church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Rapid River Cemetery.
