Jaycees event to raise funds

ESCANABA – Those looking for a good scare after the thrill of trick-or-treating has ended can visit Ernie’s Irish Pub in Escanaba Friday and Saturday for the second annual Delta County Jaycees Tunnel of Terror Haunted House.

Located in the basement of Ernie’s Irish Pub, the Tunnel of Terror includes a variety of themed rooms designed to thrill and entertain visitors.

“The Tunnel of Terror Haunted House is Halloween fun for everyone. We have a night show that caters to adult audiences and also a day show that is family friendly,” said Delta County Jaycees President John Bergman.

The adult tour will take place Friday, Nov. 1 from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, and the children’s tour will be Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and children get in to the children’s tour for $3 when accompanied by an adult.

The special children’s tour held Saturday for children five and older is designed to be more appropriate for younger audiences. While the children’s show allows families to enjoy the haunted house together, the adult show is not suitable for children, and guests of both shows enter the haunted house at their own risk.

Funds raised by the haunted house are applied to the Jaycee’s Thanksgiving Baskets project which provides needy families with all the food and trimmings to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Any additional money will be donated to community groups and projects throughout the year.

“This is our second year doing the haunted house, which is a fundraiser for our Thanksgiving baskets and contributions to community organizations,” explained Bergman. “In past years, we have given Thanksgiving baskets to over 300 families in need. We have also made monetary contributions to local non-profit organizations to help their work in the community.”

“The Tunnel of Terror will be fun, and help the Jaycees give back to the community as a whole,” he added.

Last year more than 300 adults and children toured the Tunnel of Terror raising over $1,000 for the Jaycees’ charitable efforts. This year, every room in the haunted house has been completely redesigned to give returning guests something new to experience.
