Escanaba Public Safety confirms remains found are that of missing woman
ESCANABA – Escanaba Public Safety has confirmed remains found Thursday are that of Jean Lawrence, 56, who was reported missing Feb. 6 at approximately 8 p.m. within the city of Escanaba.
Preliminary information indicates the cause of death is likely from exposure.
Lawrence’s remains were discovered in an industrial area within the city limits, along the shores of Little Bay De Noc. The discovery was made by an individual who immediately contacted Public Safety.
Officers responded and confirmed a body had been located. The area where the remains were discovered was cordoned off to conduct an investigation. The Michigan State Police Crime Lab and the Delta County Medical Examiner Investigator were summoned to the scene to assist.
Preliminary findings from an autopsy conducted Thursday at OSF St. Francis Hospital have determined the cause of death to be from exposure.
