Geraldine M. Beaudre-Henkel
MANISTIQUE – Geraldine M. Beaudre-Henkel, 89, of 305 N. Cedar St., Manistique, Mich., passed away Nov. 6, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Aug. 17, 1924, in Manistique, the daughter of Frank and Amelia (Spelich) Rubick and was raised on North Cedar Street. She was a graduate of St. Francis de Sales School in Manistique and Manistique High School with the Class of 1943.
On July 6, 1946, the former Geraldine M. Rubick married Martin M. Beaudre in Marinette, Wis. They made their home in Manistique and he preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 1958. Following Martin’s untimely death, Gerry raised her five children by herself.
In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed as a bartender at Homer’s, Jack’s and the Harbor Bar for 28 years.
On Feb. 20, 1976, she married John Henkel Jr. in Manistique where they made their home. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1993.
Gerry was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church of Manistique, St. Anne’s Altar Society, the Bishop Baraga Circle and the Manistique Moose Lodge. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, knitting and playing cards.
Gerry is survived by her children: Tooter (David) Barton, David M. Beaudre, Dominic (Pam) Beaudre, Dennis (Linda) Beaudre and Dean (Bernie) Beaudre, all of Manistique; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Lawrence (Celeste) Rubick of Newberry; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Dominic Beaudre-Fairchild; her sisters, Ann Strukel, Mary Mattlin, Angela Buruse, Rose MacGregor and Kathleen Nelson; and her brothers, Seb, Frank, Jack and George Rubick.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. A rosary and a time of sharing memories will be led by Tooter at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Manistique with Father Glenn Theoret officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery at Manistique followed by a luncheon at the parish center. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Francis de Sales School.
