Dorothy H. Baltic
ESCANABA – Dorothy H. Baltic, 98, of Escanaba, Mich., passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Christian Park Village in Escanaba. She was born July 15, 1915, in L’Anse, Mich., and was the daughter of Henry and Clara (Paquette) Johnston. Dorothy graduated from L’Anse High School in 1932 and then was employed as a secretary at the L’Anse High School.
The former Dorothy Johnston married Stephen Baltic on Nov. 21, 1940, in Marquette and he preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2007. Dorothy and her husband Stephen later moved to Escanaba and Dorothy worked as a secretary for the St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Then, in 1963, she was hired as one of the first employees at Bay de Noc College and worked at the college until her retirement. Dorothy was an active member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, a member of PEO, a member of the Delta Merry Mixers and she swam at the YMCA three times a week until age 93. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, traveling in their motor home, wintering in Arizona, dancing and music. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.
Dorothy H. Baltic is survived by: daughter, Betsy (Jon) Anderson of Rapid River; son, Stephen A. Baltic of Walker, Ky.; four grandchildren, Kim (Bill) Brady, Eric (Amy) Anderson, Stephen (Tammi) Anderson and Kami (Joe) Harvey; 10 great-grandchildren, Trey and Addison Brady, Trey and Brooke Anderson, Niklas, Alexandra and Natalie Anderson, and Elsa, Abram and Linnea Harvey; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Pearl and Mert, and brothers, Allen, Robert, Henry, Chester and Sam.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Dorothy H. Baltic will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Laura Woodworth officiating. A dinner will be served following the funeral services in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to Bay de Noc College for a scholarship to be set up in Dorothy’s name. Envelopes will be available at the church the day of the funeral or at the Anderson Funeral Home.
