Dutkavich named Ms. Federation
ESCANABA – GFWC Escanaba Women’s Club recently honored Shannon Dutkavich as 2012 Ms. Federation for her leadership and dedication to the club and GFWC.
Dutkavich joined the group in 2008 and quickly became an active member, serving on several committees. Holding a board position since 2012, she is now serving as director. Dutkavich has contributed in many ways to support the club projects and programs in the community, said club president, Dianne Lahtinen. “As a ‘go-to’ woman, she is always ready to help in any way to achieve the club goals,” Lahtinen said.
Dutkavich has served as a co-chairman for several community service programs and is currently a co-chairman for Home Life. She has served as a co-chairman several times for the annual GFWC Charity Ball.
“Through her leadership, the club has raised over $22,000 on an annual basis,” Lahtinen said. The Charity Ball is the club’s main fund-raiser and has an average of 250 guests for an evening dinner, socializing, auctions, prizes and dancing. “Members in the Escanaba community look forward to this event every year,” Lahtinen added,
Dutkavich has volunteered countless hours of planning, organizing and decorating for the Charity Ball, as well as other projects in GFWC. She has attended district meetings and GFWC MI State Conventions and looks forward to future opportunities to visit members from other GFWC clubs.
Born and raised in Escanaba, Dutkavich eared a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1996 and worked in the Detroit area for 11 years before moving back to Escanaba in 2007. After marrying her high school sweetheart in 1996, the couple welcomed their first child in September 2012.
Their daughter, Ashley, keeps her mother busy, however, Dutkavich still finds time to volunteer. She is also on the board of directors for Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Bay College Foundation, and Bay Area Economics Club. She is also an active member of the Delta County Jaycees, St. Anne’s Church, and the Delta Animal Society.
Dutkavich and her husband own Wendy’s Restaurant in Escanaba.
