Man jailed after foster home attack
GLADSTONE – A 40-year-old man is scheduled to be arraigned today for allegedly injuring an 18-year-old male with a knife this morning at an adult foster care home in Gladstone where they both resided.
The suspect was lodged in Delta County Jail after being arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, also known as felonious assault. The victim did not require medical treatment, said police.
The incident occurred at Country Acres Adult Foster Care, 9284 Hwy. M-35 in Brampton, at around 1:22 a.m. Staff called the assault into central dispatch. No other residents or staff were threatened during the incident.
“There was a verbal confrontation back and forth between the two of them,” explained Gladstone Public Safety Director Paul Geyer this morning.
The suspect then went after the victim with a kitchen knife, similar to a steak knife, said Geyer. The victim received minor superficial wounds to the thigh and back area but did not require medical care, the police chief added.
Geyer said Gladstone Public Safety responded to the scene – which is outside the city limits – because Michigan State Police did not have a patrol car to assist the sheriff’s department.
The name of the suspect is not being released, pending his arraignment in Delta County District Court.
