Robert August ‘Bob’ Koski
GLADSTONE – Robert August “Bob” Koski, 78, of Gladstone, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 17, 2013, at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers following a lengthy illness.
Robert was born July 29, 1935, in Palmer, Mich., the son of August and Anna (Pietila) Koski. He was raised in Palmer, Negaunee and Marquette where he was a 1953 graduate of Graveraet High School in Marquette. He received his bachelor of science (1966) and master of arts in education (1973) degrees from Northern Michigan University.
Bob enjoyed 32 years of public service employment. He served as a police officer for the City of Ishpeming and as a correction officer with the State House of Corrections and Branch Prison in Marquette. He also served as a project developer with the Michigan Department of Social Services before joining the State Department of Education.
He was a rehabilitation counselor for 21 years for Menominee County and the City of Escanaba. He took great pleasure in assisting his clients in need.
Bob was a life member of the Escanaba Elks, served on the Credit Committee for the U.P. State Credit Union and he was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone where he had served on the church council for several years.
Bob’s leisure time was comprised of reading the history of the Upper Peninsula, hunting, fishing and playing golf. His favorite time at home was spent with their dog, Daisy.
In addition to his wife Marilyn, (LeSage) whom he married on Oct. 25, 1986, survivors include: children, Mark (Deanna) Koski of Escanaba, Jenifer Todd of Neenah, Wis., Trudy (Darryl) Lantagne of Menasha, Wis., and Paul (Elina) Koski of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; stepchildren, Steven Harris of Ishpeming, Mich., Sharon Cole of Escanaba, Mich, and David Cole of Marquette, Mich.; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Adrian, Taylor, Matthew, Luke, Stevie, Michael, Joseph and Helyn; two great-grandchildren, Liam and Annabelle; nephew, Gary (Valarie) Seppanen of Junction City, Calif.
His parents and sister, Dorothy (Martin) Seppanen, preceded Bob in death.
Bob’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Robert August Koski will follow at 5:30 p.m. with Rev. Peggy Rose officiating. Luncheon will follow in the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Memorial contributions in memory of Bob may be directed to the family. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Escanaba and Gladstone are assisting the Koski family.
