Loren D. Potter

BARK RIVER – Loren Daniel Potter, 77, of Perronville, and a former Palmer resident, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2013, at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain where he had been a patient for three days surrounded by his family.

Loren was born July 23, 1936, in Menominee, to Norris and Hazel (Farr) Potter. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 11, 1959, until Feb. 14, 1962. Loren married Janet Romens on Aug. 27, 1960. They started their family and lived in Menominee where Loren worked as a mechanic. They moved to Palmer in 1972, where Loren worked for Richmond Township as a maintenance mechanic until his retirement. Loren served as a volunteer fireman for the Palmer Fire Department, an EMT and ambulance driver (his favorite). He was a member of the Richmond Township Community Club, the Negaunee Elks and Bark River Lions Club where he was very involved with the Off Road Races.

Loren loved to hunt, play (and cheat on Shirley) cribbage, and played on a pool team. But his favorite thing was spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his four daughters, Donna (Kurt) Williams, Linda (Terry) Leivo, Laura Green, Diane (Loren) Reetz; and his brother, Donald Potter. Also surviving are Loren’s grandchildren who meant so very much to him, Jon (Angie) Williams, Michael (Jenn) Williams, Keith Leivo, Spencer Leivo, Derek Reetz, Erin Reetz, Kayleigh Green and Cameron Green; his great-grandchildren, Jackson, Emerson and Izzie, and soon-to-be-born, Baby Boy Williams.

He also leaves behind the extended family of the wonderful angel who was sent to him who loved and cared for him for the last nine years, his sweetie, Shirley Kwak and her sons, Jim (Candy) Kwak, Clarence (Paula) Kwak, Scott (Amber) Kwak and their children. He was preceded in death by his first love, Janet Ann Potter; his parents; his sisters, Annamae Erickson and Carol Ruleford.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, at the Koskey Funeral Home in Negaunee with Rev. Douglas Mater officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends from 3 p.m. until the time of services at 5 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Bark River Lions Club, 5691 F Rd., Bark River, Mich. 49807.
