Escanaba couple celebrates 65th wedding anniversary
ESCANABA – Donald and Jewel Savage will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a dinner in their honor over the Thanksgiving holiday. The celebration will be hosted by the couple’s five children, who all plan to be “home” for the occasion.
Donald Savage married the former Jewel Sundelius on Oct. 30, 1948 in Escanaba. Attending the couple were Donald’s brother, Bradley Savage, and Jewel’s sister, Betty (Sundelius) Sovey.
Both retired, Donald was an employee of Harnischfeger; Jewel worked for Woolworth’s until its closure.
Donald enjoys tinkering and refurbishing anything with a motor. He also enjoys coffee klatching at all the local eateries.
Jewel has been a crafter all her life and enjoys shopping, visiting, and going to rummage sales when the weather is nice.
The Savages are the parents of five children: Ronald of Escanaba, Dennis of Phoenix, Ariz., Donna (John) Hitzker of Addison, Ill., Darlene (Jeff) Derocher of Escanaba, and Diana (Gerald) Derocher of Bark River.
They also have 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
