A gaff-rigged wishbone ice boat, built by Raymond C. Hansen, is pictured as it skims across the ice in this photograph taken in late 1957. The ice boat was launched in Gladstone. Ray Hansen is pictured in front and looking out from under the sail is “Hoppy” Cass, a local commercial fishermen. The two youngsters in the “cockpit” are Jim Hansen, former Escanaba High School principal, who said he about 10 years old when this photo was taken, and his brother, Allen.
