Gene E. Carley

COOKS – Gene “The Record Man” Carley, 54, of Cooks, passed away on Dec. 7, 2013, at this home in Cooks.

He was born July 20, 1959, in Milwaukee, the son of Dale and Ethel (Steele) Carley and was a graduate of Big Bay de Noc High School with the Class of 1978.

Following graduation he entered the U.S. Army and saw duty in Germany.

Gene was employed by Hiawatha Behavioral Health in Manistique and was also the owner/proprietor of the Left Overtures music/record shop in Manistique. He attended record shows throughout the U.P. and Wisconsin.

He enjoyed yard sales and going to concerts.

Gene is survived by his parents, Dale and Ethel Carley of Cooks; wife, Deborah Reid Carley of Cooks; brother, Roy Carley of Buford, Ga.; and his maternal grandmother, Annabelle Benson of LaCrosse, WI.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn Carley and Johnny Carley.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Congregational Church in Cooks.

A veteran’s memorial ritual will be held at 5 p.m. at the church, followed by the memorial service. Pastor Lon Hider will officiate.

Burial will be held in the family lot in the Inwood Township Cemetery at Cooks.

The Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique is assisting the family with the arrangements.
