Crystal Dawn Tatrow
GARDEN – Crystal D. “Sissy” Tatrow, 73, of Garden, passed away peacefully on Dec. 6, 2013, at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 15, 1940, in Escanaba, the daughter of Andy and Della (Farley) Tatrow. She lived in Garden, Rapid River and Muskegon, returning to Garden with her parents in the early 1970s.
After her mother’s passing, she remained in her home where her brother, Morgan and his wife, DeAnna cared for her until she moved to the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in December of 2009.
Sissy attended the West Michigan School for Handicapped Children (now Wesley School for Special Needs) in Muskegon in which her mother Della was instrumental in setting up.
Sissy loved people and was happiest amongst others at parties and gatherings. She talked to everyone and was called the “Walmart Greeter” at the medical care facility. She could often be found socializing near the N.E. nurses station after making her daily rounds of visiting with friends and posting the next day’s menu on the bulletin boards. She loved music and the holidays, especially Christmas.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden.
Sissy is survived by her brothers, Gail (Phyllis) Tatrow of Fremont, Mich., and Morgan (DeAnna) Tatrow of Garden; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Scott Tatrow.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in May of 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Garden, with burial to follow in the New Garden Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility Activities Fund, to Bay Cliff Health Camp or to the charity of your choice. The Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique and Garden is assisting the family with the arrangements.
