Michael Daniel ‘Mike’ Williams
ESCANABA – Michael Daniel “Mike” Williams, 58, of 213 Stephenson Ave., Escanaba, passed away suddenly after a long fought battle with many illnesses Monday evening, Dec. 16, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Michael was born Oct. 20, 1955, in Escanaba to Louie and JoAnn (Summers) Williams. Mike was raised in Gladstone where he was a graduate of Gladstone High School. Following graduation, Mike worked in Milwaukee before returning to Gladstone where he worked and retired from Mead Paper Company.
Mike was an unselfish humble man, always willing to help and give all he could. He had a unique sense of humor with the ability to put a smile on anyone’s face. He expressed a genuine compassion for all alike and had a trademark stubbornness self-claimed to be inherited by his children.
Mike was both spiritually and religiously influenced in his way of life. With family being very important to him, he raised two daughters of his own, and once remarried he gained another daughter and a son. He was a doting grandfather whose love and guidance played a large role in helping to sculpt the impressive young man his grandson (JJ) has become.
He enjoyed bike riding, particularly those rides accompanied by his grandson, fishing and all sorts of puzzle work. Mike liked to stay current on all sorts of news whether being that of the social media Face Book, or around the world of CNN.
Mike is survived by: mother, JoAnn Gravelle of Escanaba; daughters, Kelly Williams of Lincoln Park, Mich., Krystal Williams (Jamie Larson and his sons Brent and Jared); foster grandson, Jerry Jay Munger III; stepchildren, Jerome Godfrey of Iron Mountain, Nicole Godfrey of Gladstone; grandchildren, Kaylee, Emily, Dylan, Wyatt and Lola. Mike remained close friends with Lori Williams.
Brothers, Louie (Betty) Williams of Cornell, Mich., Otis (Linda) Williams of Gladstone, Mich., John (Diane) Williams of Gladstone, Mich., Dan (Karen) Gravelle of Perronville, Mich., Merle (Bridgett) Gravelle of Soo Hill, Mich., Ron (Yolonda) Masta of Escanaba, Mich.; sisters, Betty (Jack) Majestic of Glastone, Mich., Theresa Adams of Escanaba, Mich., twin sister, Patti (Joe) King of Riverland, Mich., Carol Baxter of Gladstone, Mich.,and Ann (Chuck) Viau of Riverland, Mich.
Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive as well as his lifelong canine companion Cena.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Louie Williams; stepmother, Vivian Williams; stepfather, Merle Gravelle; sister, Mary Ault; brother, Roger Masta; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Williams.
Mike’s family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Michael Daniel Williams will follow at 3 p.m. with Elder Mike Balenger officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Gladstone American Legion.
