Two killed in head-on crash
HARRIS TOWNSHIP – Two drivers died in a two-vehicle head-on collision in Menominee County on Monday, according to Menominee County Sheriff’s Department, which continues to investigate the crash.
Lee James Polfus, 29, of Escanaba, and Curtis Joel Grondin, 35, of Wilson, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on County Road 557 in Harris Township.
Polfus was driving a minivan south when it crossed the centerline and struck Grondin’s northbound pickup truck at around 7:30 p.m.
Preliminary findings of the investigation list possible contributing factors for the driver’s loss of control of the mini-van as alcohol, speed and slippery road conditions, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department today.
