Man gets jail term for thefts from stores
ESCANABA – An Escanaba man who stole a generator, a carpet cleaner, a box spring, a cabinet and sink, and other items from local stores was recently sentenced to eight months in jail, according to Delta County Circuit Court records.
Michael Anthony Laverdiere, 31, of 408 S. 8th St., Escanaba, pleaded guilty to attempted larceny in a building and was sentenced last week by Circuit Court Judge Stephen Davis.
In addition to jail time, Laverdiere was also ordered to pay $598 in fines and costs and $1,800 in restitution. He was given credit for serving 88 days in the county jail.
According to Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post, Laverdiere allegedly stole items from Walmart and Menards in Escanaba during August and September. He then pawned some of the stolen goods, said troopers.
Items stolen included a generator, three drills, saw blades, a carpet cleaner, an air mattress, a box spring, hardwood flooring, ceiling tile, and a cabinet and sink.
Laverdiere was arrested on one 10-year felony count of receiving and concealing stolen property $1,000 to $20,000. That charge was dismissed when he pleaded guilty last month to attempted larceny which has a maximum punishment of two years in prison.
