Wolf killed in car accident

ESCANABA – Police have confirmed a wolf was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night near Escanaba.

Escanaba Public Safety responded to the car/wolf accident which occurred at 7:07 p.m. Monday on U.S. 2 & 41 near Escanaba city limits, according to a news release from public safety.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a west bound 2010 Jeep had struck the wolf, which was crossing the road.

The driver of the vehicle, whose name is not being released at this time, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

Rampart EMS transported the driver to OSF St. Francis Hospital and the deceased wolf was turned over to Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Division personnel.

The wolf was black in color and weighed approximately 130 pounds.
