Daniel H. Wilson
RAPID RIVER – Daniel H. Wilson, 74, of Rapid River, passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 5, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family following a lengthy illness.
Daniel was born July 11, 1939, in Flint, Mich., the son of Harold and Malvina (Johnson) Wilson. He was raised in Ensign and attended the Rapid River Public Schools. Daniel served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1963. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Ensign.
On Jan. 5, 1963, Daniel was united in marriage to the former Barbara Raspor in Gladstone at the All Saints Church, and together the couple made their home and raised five children in Rapid River. Daniel worked for Mead Paper Company for 32 years in the Craft Mill and he retired in 2001. Daniel was a very quiet man who loved to tell jokes. He enjoyed going to the casino, mowing his yard, and spending time at camp with his family. In addition, Daniel cherished spending time with his loving companion and best friend, his dog, Shadow.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara; children, Lynn (Harland) Deneau of Gladstone, Daniel C. Wilson of Mukwonago, Wis., Gary (Kristi) Wilson of Freemont, Mich., Angela (Allen) Paquin, of Gladstone, David (Lori Harness) Wilson of Rapid River; grandchildren, Audrey and Adam Fix, Nicholas (Maegan Carmody) Deneau, Justin Wilson, Kaylee (Chris Feikema) Wilson, Devin and Emily Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Corey Wilson, Abby Wilson, Mitchell Paquin, Jacob Paquin and Brittney Paquin; great-grandchildren, Caden and Natalie Fix, Benjamin Deneau and Sophia Feikema; brother and sisters, Lois (Fred) Day, of Oconto, Wis., Marilyn (Gary) Kulas, of Muskego, Wis., Richard (Debbie) Wilson of Gladstone, and Shirley O’Mealy of Escanaba.
In addition to his parents, his granddaughter, Carrie Ann Deneau, brothers-in-law, Harry O’Mealy and Ramon, Tordeur preceded Daniel in death.
Daniel’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 3 to 5:45 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.
Rapid River American Legion Post 301 military rites will follow at 5:45 p.m. Funeral services celebrating the life of Daniel H. Wilson will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Jacek Wtyklo of the St. Charles Catholic Church officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Gladstone Senior Center. Burial will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
