Barbara Blake

ESCANABA – Barbara Blake, 74, 510 1st Ave S., Apt. 1704, Escanaba, passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at her home.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1939, in Escanaba, daughter to Oscar and Alice (Brandt) Benson. Barbara was a lifelong resident of Escanaba, attending Escanaba schools.

On Dec. 13, 1985, Barbara married Neal Blake in Escanaba. He preceded her in death in 1999.

Barbara worked as a waitress and bartender for the Family Inn and several other restaurants in our area.

She was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed going to the Eagles Club with her sisters.

Among survivors include her daughters, Lori (Dave) Stasewich of Escanaba, Debra (Allen) Klotz of Gladstone, Alice (Mike) Palmer of Rapid River, Michelle Blake of Jacksonville, Fla., Rick (Penny) LaForest of Escanaba; nine grandchildren, Ryan and Andrew LaForest, Trevor and Nicole Palmer, Kristin Benike, Dillon Blake, Alexis Blake, Chantell and Olivia LaForest; two great-grandchildren; special friend, Mary McGillis of Escanaba; two sisters, Betty Wellman and Carol Kidd of Escanaba; brother, Jim Benson of Rockford, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bill, Don, Gary and Jack; sisters, Dorothy Oakman, Ida Soderman, Mary Rae, and infant sister, Catherine.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The Escanaba Eagles Auxiliary will have services at 5 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Pastor Chris Johnson for Christ the King Lutheran Church officiating.

Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or the Delta County Cancer Alliance.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements.
