Police probe semi accident

ESCANABA – Investigation continues into a one-vehicle semi accident that partially blocked traffic on the highway between Escanaba and Gladstone Friday, according to a news release from the Delta County Sheriff’s Department.

A 60-year-old Gwinn man was driving a semi truck pulling a tandem trailer when he lost control of the vehicle during slushy and icy conditions on U.S. 2 & 41/M-35, said deputies who were dispatched to the scene at 11:14 a.m.

The northbound truck struck a viaduct near the NewPage entrance, causing the tandem trailer to overturn onto its side. The trailer blocked portions of the both the northbound and southbound lanes, said deputies.

The truck driver refused treatment at the scene from Rampart Emergency Medical Services, according to the news release.

The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by Escanaba Public Safety, Michigan State Police, Delta County Road Commission, Canadian National Railway, and Blondeau Trucking.
