UPSSA Basketball Polls

The North Central Jets (9-0) took slid back a spot in the Associated Press poll and lost a key player in Travis Vincent for at least a few weeks with an ankle injury, but it hasn’t affected them so far. The Jets remain a unanimous No. 1 in the UPSSA Boys Class D poll as the meat of their schedule approaches. A 59-45 victory at what was a one loss North Dickinson team, was a solid statement. It was North Central’s first game playing without Vincent and center Trevor Ekberg did not play in the first half, but the Jets’ depth shone through. This week, North Central will be challenged by Mid Peninsula and a solid Bark River-Harris team.

Making its debut in the U.P. poll this week was No. 5 Forest Park (7-0). The undefeated Trojans are set to take on North Central on Jan. 31. Also making their debut in the Girls Class D poll is No. 5 Munising (8-2). The Lady Mustangs start three freshmen but have so far proven capable of playing with just about anyone in the Skyline and Central U.P. Conferences. No. 4 Brimley (7-2) which lost to No. 3 Superior Central (10-1) on Saturday, did not move in the poll. The Cougars however, keep rolling even if they have had a few near-upsets, including Monday’s 49-43 victory over Mid Peninsula.

In the boys Class ABC poll No. 4 Escanaba (7-3) slid back a spot after falling at home to No. 1 Marquette (8-0). The Eskymos were leapt over by No. 3 Ironwood (8-1). The Eskymos are idle this week.
