Minor injury in bus crash
GLADSTONE – A Munising school bus rear-ended a tractor-trailer on U.S. 2/41 & M-35 near the Escanaba River bridge Thursday evening, according to Michigan State Police from the Gladstone Post.
The school bus was transporting the Munising girls basketball team to Carney when the accident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. One student was treated at the scene for minor injuries, said troopers in a news release.
The southbound bus had crested a hill when the setting sun obscured the bus driver’s view causing him not to see the tractor-trailer until it was too late to avoid the collision, said troopers who cited the bus driver for failing to yield.
The tractor-trailer, which had turned south onto the highway from NewPage, was rear-ended by the school bus. The bus was significantly damaged in the crash. A bus was supplied by Escanaba Area Public Schools.
Assisting at the scene were the Delta County Sheriff’s Department and Rampart Emergency Medical Services.
