ESCANABA – Donald Anderson, long-time resident of Escanaba, passed away on Jan. 21, 2014, at the age of 90. He was born on May 2, 1923, to Aldric and Hannah (Olson) Anderson.
As Don grew up he worked on local farms, I Stephenson Lumber Co., and the Great Western Ore Docks. Later he became a foreman for E. Arnzten Construction and eventually took over the business. He called it Don Anderson Construction. In addition to building projects around town, he became the general contractor for Mead Paper Company. He also built his own industrial park along the highway just north of Escanaba. Although he retired at age 65, he continued his rental and construction sales business. \Don was a charter and oldest living member of the local Carpenter’s Union.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Audrey L. (Sahn); his daughter, Karen; and two grand-daughters, Sarah and Hannah. Others include a brother, Wallace; two sisters, Mildred Leisner and Ruth Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Private family funeral services celebrating the life of Donald Anderson will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dean Peterson from Bethany Lutheran Church officiating. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
