Child airlifted to hospital after accident
COOKS – Four people including a Gladstone woman and her two children were injured in a two-vehicle accident in Schoolcraft County on Sunday, according to the Michigan State Police Detachment in Manistique. One child was flown to a downstate hospital.
Cooks resident Terie Desjarden, 23, was driving east on U.S. 2 and attempting to turn north on County Road 422 when she failed to yield to a westbound vehicle driven by Audrey Hanson, 35, of Gladstone, said troopers.
Both drivers and Hanson’s two children were treated for injuries at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique. One child was transferred by air to Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. The child’s condition in not known.
The accident occurred in the afternoon during snowy and blowing wind conditions. Desjarden was ticketed for failing to yield, stated troopers in a news release.
Assisting at the scene were Sault Tribal Police, Department of Natural Resources personnel, and the Inwood and Cooks fire departments.
