Virginia L. Sundling

RAPID RIVER – Virginia L. Sundling, 74, of 9892 U.S. Hwy 2, Rapid River, passed away Saturday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba surrounded by her loving family.

Virginia was born April 22, 1939, in Escanaba, the daughter of Louis and Adeline (Artley) Brunette. She was united in marriage to Rodger D. Sundling on Jan. 18, 1958, together they raised their five children and made their home in the Rapid River area.

Virginia was raised in Gladstone, attended Holy Name School, and was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church and Rapid River Senior Center. She enjoyed the company of her pet cats, Kitters and Sam, and also enjoyed feeding the birds, rabbits and deer on their property. Family was very important to her and she loved to spend time with them, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered for being a wonderful cook and having a kind heart.

Her family will miss her special holiday dinners and home baked cookies. Her hobbies included playing bingo and taking casino trips.

In addition to her husband of 56 years, Rodger, survivors include her children,

Larry D. (JoJean Miller) Sundling, Susan (Mike) Hebert, Kenneth (Dawn) Sundling, Dale Sundling, and Sherri (Frank Bushey) Sundling; brothers, Louis (Irene) Brunette, Wallace (Iona) Brunette, and William (Judy) Brunette; sister, Sharon (Allen) Lanaville; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Virginia’s family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 29, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Virginia L. Sundling will follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Jamie Ziminski of the All Saints Catholic Church officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Gladstone American Legion Hall.
