MVS scholarships awards shine for Elks ‘Jewel of the North’ Lodge
ESCANABA – Three students from the local Elks Lodge 354 have won the U.P. District Most Valuable Scholarship contest and have advanced to the State of Michigan Elks for judging.
“Lodge 354, referred to as the ‘Jewel of the North,’ can sparkle and shine because it is so proud of its latest scholarship winners,” said Lodge/U.P. District Chairman John Pickard.
Escanaba Lodge hosted the District judging this year and have announced the results as follows: The two male winners are Jeffery King from Gladstone High School and Travis Heller from Escanaba High School.
The female winner is Rylee Doucette from Escanaba High school.
The State of Michigan judging will be completed on Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Houghton Lake Elks Lodge 1982.
The Elks National Foundation is investing in the nation’s future by awarding $4.1 million in college scholarships
The Most Valuable Student scholarship will help 500 deserving students attend college. The ENF will award 20 top scholarships ranging from $20,000 to $50,000. The remaining 480 runners-up will receive $4,000 scholarships and provide millions of dollars in college scholarships to high school seniors like those in the community.
The State of Michigan Elks will again this year give $1,000 to top scholars in the State not to advance to Chicago for national judging.
