Honey ‘Alice’ Pelon

MANISTIQUE – Honey “Alice” Pelon, 81, of 900 Steuben St., Manistique, Mich., passed away Friday morning, Jan. 31, 2014, at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

She was one of 19 children, born March 22, 1932, in Cooks, Mich., the daughter of Herbert and Claudia (Desjarden) Popour, and attended school in Cooks.

On March 22, 1952, on her birthday, she married Wilfred Earl Pelon in Manistique. Wilfred preceded Honey in death on April 27, 1998.

Honey loved spending time with her grandchildren. She further enjoyed selling Avon, knitting, listening to country and western music, fishing, taking car rides looking for deer and going to the casino. She loved the U.P. State Fair, where she could enjoy some “Norm’s French Fries” with vinegar and play bingo.

She is survived by her son, Robert (Lorri) Pelon of Manistique; her grandchildren, Maleina Marie Wildenberg of Little Chute, Wis., and James Robert Pelon of Green Bay, Wis.; and her great-grandchildren, Ethan, Seth, Kyra and Liam Wildenberg. Honey is further survived by her sisters, Elmira “Girl” Parrish of Taylor, Mich., Evelyn Mann of Rockford, Ill., Arla Westlund of Escanaba, Mich., and Mary “Tiner” Kennedy of Manistique; her sister-in-laws, Joan Lowery and Barb Poupore; and her brother-in-law, Ernest Pelon.

Honey was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Millie; her husband, Wilfred; brothers, Elmer “Mannie”, Leonard “Bud”, Frederick “Babe”, Alvin “Lou”, Eugene “Gene”, Harold “Pete” and Wilbert “Willie”; and her sisters, twins Bernice “Punky” and Beatrice “Swede”, Eva, Lydia “Cheel”, Leona “Kitty”, Teresa and Frances.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 6, at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique.

A memorial service will follow at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be held in the spring in the Inwood Township cemetery in Cooks.
