Man arrested following standoff

SKANDIA – A 36-year old man from Skandia who broke into a neighbor’s home with a gun was arrested without incident following a standoff with State Police Monday morning.

Troopers from the Negaunee State Police Post were dispatched around 3:40 a.m. Monday to a report of a possible suicide on Yalmer Road in Skandia Township. The caller stated the man had a shotgun and was somewhere behind the residence.

Upon arriving on scene, troopers followed footprints to an unoccupied neighboring residence that the man had broken into. Troopers made contact with the man, who had a shotgun in the residence with him. Officers were able to talk the man into coming out of the residence peacefully, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

The man had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. Currently the man is lodged at Marquette General Hospital for psychiatric evaluation. If clearance is granted, he will be moved to the Marquette County Jail to be lodged on his outstanding warrants.
