Dalene ‘Dee’ Kay Benson

ESCANABA – Dalene “Dee” Kay Benson, 75, 1424 N. 20th St., Escanaba, passed away on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at her home.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1938, in Butterfield Twp., Mich., daughter of Warren Oval and Doris Edna (Heric) Wade. Dalene was raised in Rapid River and graduated from Rapid River High School in 1956. She moved to Escanaba in the 1960s.

Dalene worked for the Chip In Casino and was the secretary for the Foster Grandparent’s Program, retiring in 2007.

She enjoyed quilting for hospice patients, volunteering for OSF St. Francis Hospital and was on the Delta County Election Board. Dalene was an active member of Central United Methodist Church for over 50 years where she helped with making pasties for fundraisers and assisting in the kitchen for funeral luncheons.

Among survivors include her daughter, Carrie Lynn Brabyn of Escanaba; two sons, Robert E. Benson of Green Bay, and William W. Benson of Kentucky; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 13, at Central United Methodist Church from 4 to 6 p.m. with the funeral to follow at 6 p.m. with Rev. Donna Minarik officiating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will take place in the spring in Rapid River Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Central United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church.
