William James Whitehead
ESCANABA – William James Whitehead, 67, of Escanaba, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at his home in Two Rivers, Wis. He was born March 29, 1946, in Escanaba, Mich., and was the son of William and Mabel (Jeffreys) Whitehead. Bill served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter gunner during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged after he was wounded in a helicopter crash, receiving a Purple Heart from the U.S. Army.
Throughout his working years he was employed at the railroad and later as an over the road truck driver. He married the former Donna Moran on May 18, 1985 in Escanaba.
William James Whitehead is survived by: wife, Donna; children, Lisa Moran (Mwanga) Williams of Chicago, Erica (Adam) Ritchie of Rhinelander, Wis., Eric (Jennifer) Moran of Escanaba, Carmen Whitehead of Manitowoc, Wis., and Maria Joy Whitehead of Escanaba; 13 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Larry Smith, and sisters, Virginia Dawson and Holly Whitehead.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta County Veterans Services will be conducted at 3:45 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating the life of William James Whitehead will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Terry Saunders from St. Anne Catholic Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery. A luncheon will be held following the funeral services at the St. Anne Catholic Church fellowship hall.
