Patanas celebrate golden wedding anniversary

RAPID RIVER – John and Brenda Patana celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 27, 2013, with a reception hosted by the couple’s two daughters. Their daughters, Audra Spielman and Beth Larson, hosted the celebration at the Rapid River Lions Club.

John and the former Brenda Moser were united in marriage on Feb. 8, 1964, at St. Charles Church in Rapid River.

John is a 52-year member of the Iron Workers Local 783 in Marquette and Local 8 in Milwaukee. He served six years with the National Guard. He and his brother, Dick, formed the Original Rhythm Rocker Band in 1958 where he played bass, accordion and did vocals. Brenda later joined them on vocals.

The couple raised two daughters. Audra (Mark) Spielman of Nelson, British Columbia, are the parents of two sons, Lucas and Max. Beth Larson, who lives in Gladstone, has a son, Gunnar, and daughter, Ahna.

It was an evening of fun, socializing and surprises from family and friends. Dancing to the music provided by Generations added a few memorable moments when grandsons, Lucas on bass and Max on drums, sat in with the band for a few songs, and granddaughter Ahna and friend Grace sang a song. The anniversary couple also did a few songs, bringing back some good memories.
