David J. Lenards
GLADSTONE – David J. Lenards, 75, of Gladstone, formerly of Ensign, went to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, Feb. 19, 2014, at the Lenards family home in Ensign.
Dave was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Kranzburg, S.D., the son of John and Zinnia (Gertz) Lenards.
He was raised in Rapid City, S.D., and was a 1956 graduate of the Rapid City High School. Dave was a devoted, hardworking young man. At the age of 14, he began working and supporting his brothers and sisters and continued to do so for many years before having a family of his own. He was an exceptional woodworker, a talent that afforded him a scholarship following high school.
He served in the United States Army Reserves, where he became a decorated marksmen. In 1966, Dave was united in marriage to the former Virginia Mae Robinson at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Marquette. Together Dave and Virginia made their home and raised their family in Ensign. As his children grew, Dave was heavily involved in his kids activities. He served as a baseball coach, a member of the Rapid River Sports Boosters, and heavily involved with Cub Scouts. Dave was employed as an electrician for IBEW Local 979 for 46 years. His wife Virginia preceded him in death in 1997.
On Jan. 30, 2000, Dave was united in marriage to the former Audrey A. Eby and together the couple made their home in Gladstone. Dave was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to camp with family and friends.
Dave is survived by his wife, Audrey; sons, Scott (Tracy) Lenards of Gladstone, Robin (Cheryl Gagne) Lenards of Ensign, Mich., Mark Lenards of Ensign; brothers, Clarence (Delores) Lenards of Rapid City, S.D., John Lenards of Florida, Albert Lenards of Rapid City, S.D.; sisters, Ann Lackman of Palm Desert, Calif., Gladys (Donald) Snowberger of Peoria, Ariz.; grandchildren, Haley, Amber and Jordan; stepchildren, Norman, Martin, Jeffrey, Norine and Shirley. Also surviving are 13 step-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, John and Zinnia; wife, Virginia Mae; son, David John Lenards Jr.; and brother, Ed Lenards.
Dave’s family will receive friends on Sunday from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of David J. Lenards will follow visiting hours at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone with Deacon Mike LeBeau officiating. Luncheon will be announced following funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the Lenards family respectfully request that contribution be directed to the Delta County Cancer Alliance.
