Help us honor local volunteers

We need your help.

For several years now, the Daily Press has operated a program designed to honor local volunteers who make a significant impact in the area. It is called Volunteer of the Month. Monthly, the Daily Press honors a local volunteer in a front page story. In September, a panel at the Daily Press selects a Volunteer of the Year from among the volunteers that have been picked each month. The Volunteer of the Year is honored at the annual Delta County Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner in October. Past Volunteers of the Year include Ken Bucholtz, Paddy Fitch and Bill and Janet LaMarch.

This is where you, the Daily Press reader, comes in. We need our readers to nominate volunteers they know who are deserving of this honor. We consider you, our readers, our eyes and ears. You may know of a deserving volunteer we here at the Daily Press are unaware of.

Do you know of a person that gives a significant amount of time to good causes? If so, let us know.

Making a nomination is easy.

To nominate an area resident as the Daily Press Volunteer of the Month, send your nomination to Volunteer of the Month, c/o The Daily Press, 600 Ludington St., Escanaba MI 49829. Nominations can also be submitted via the Daily Press virtual newsroom by visiting the Daily Press website,, and clicking on Submit News. Nominations can also be emailed to

Nominations should include your name and phone number and the name and phone number of the person you are nominating. Tell us about the person – how and where they have volunteered and why you think they should be honored.

Our area is blessed with many volunteers. Help us give them the recognition they so richly deserve.
