Jason Paul ‘Jay’ Zawacki

HASTINGS, Mich. – Jason Paul “Jay” Zawacki, 40, 409 E. Woodlawn Ave., Hastings, Mich., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

He was born on Jan. 24, 1974, in Escanaba, son of Paul C. and Lorraine (Couillard) Zawacki. Jason graduated from Bark River-Harris High School in 1993. He attended Delaware Valley College of Agriculture in Doylestown, Penn.

At the age of 18 he went to Pennsylvania and moved back to Bark River when he was 35. He moved to Hastings in December of 2013.

He was employed for many years with GMAC Financial Group and other financial groups.

Jason lived for agriculture and animals were his passion. He enjoyed breeding, showing, fitting and selling cattle. He was very active with 4-H and participated in the U.P. State Fair for many years earning grand champion status for five consecutive years.

He is survived by his parents, Paul and Lorraine of Bark River; two brothers, Todd (Kimberly) of Bark River and Marc (Shanon) of Perronville; nieces and nephews, Amanda, Aaron, Carter and Cara; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Darryl Pepin of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church officiating. A luncheon will follow.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Zawacki family with arrangements.
