Guilty verdict in criminal sexual conduct case

ESCANABA – After two days of deliberation, a jury found an Escanaba man guilty on one count of criminal sexual conduct following a three-day trial in Delta County Circuit Court.

Dustin Anthony Menard, 27, will be sentenced May 2 on one count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct by force or coercion, a 15-year felony.

The jury found Menard not guilty on two other charges – a second count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct by force or coercion and one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct by force or coercion, a two-year high-court misdemeanor.

He was also being tried as a fourth-offense habitual offender which increases the maximum sentences.

Menard was arrested last fall in connection with an alleged sexual assault reported by a 24-year-old female friend on June 9, 2013, in Wells Township.
