Suspect arrested in fatal hit and run
NEGAUNEE – A suspect has been arrested in the death of a Big Bay woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking in Marquette County’s Powell Township last December, announced Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post on Monday.
Robin Lynn Rahoi, 54, was walking on County Road KCB (also known as Lighthouse Road), approximately two miles east of Big Bay Village, when she was struck by an unknown vehicle on Dec. 17, 2013.
At around 5:20 a.m. that Tuesday morning, a passing motorist reported a body on the roadway to Marquette County Central Dispatch. State police responded and identified the woman as Rahoi.
Shortly after, troopers and an accident reconstructionist from the Michigan State Police 8th District Headquarters investigating the fatality located a suspect hit-and-run vehicle.
After further investigation, which included a DNA analysis by the state police crime lab, a warrant request was submitted to the county prosecutor for review.
The suspect driver – a 46-year-old man from Big Bay – was arrested on Monday on one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident when at fault, resulting in death. The felony carries a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
The suspect remains lodged in Marquette County Jail in lieu of a $150,000 cash bond. His name is being withheld pending his arraignment which is scheduled to occur in Marquette County District Court today, said a court official.
