William (Bill) James Flynn
LAINGSBURG, Mich. – William (Bill) James Flynn, 62 of Laingsburg, passed away at Sparrow Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing on Monday, March 24, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Owosso, Mich., on May 24, 1951, the son of James R. and Ardis N. (Ouillette) Flynn.
He graduated from St. Paul High School in 1969 and married Joanne Boudreau in Escanaba on Nov. 20, 1971. He served in the 144th Military Police in the Owosso National Guard, was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church in Laingsburg, Mich., member of the Pope and Young Club, was an avid hunter and fisherman, member of Pheasants Forever. Bill worked for General Motors in Lansing in skilled trades for 34 years before retiring.
In earlier years he farmed and was a police officer for Caledonia Township. The last five years he was a park ranger for Sleepy Hollow State Park, which he thoroughly enjoyed. Bill had one grandchild, Tyler, who he loved dearly.
Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joanne; daughters, Shannon Rae Flynn of Chicago, Ill., Kellene (Matthew) Thingstad of Charlotte; grandson, Tyler James Flynn-Lacey; brothers, Thomas and Jerry Flynn of Laingsburg; sister, Renee Flynn Brown of Laingsburg.
He was predeceased by his brother, Patrick Flynn; parents; brothers-in-law, Mitch Brown, Roger Jenshak and Leonard Boudreau.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Laingsburg on Friday, March 28, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Fr. Duane Pamment will officiate with burial to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.
