Barbara A. Helgemo
ESCANABA – Barbara A. Helgemo, 77, of 4514 Danforth Road, Escanaba, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. She was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Escanaba. The former Barbara Milkovich married Richard Helgemo on June 27, 1953, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Escanaba and he preceded her in death on July 16, 2000.
Barbara was co-owner of 5 Corners Grocery Store in Danforth with her mother for 20 years. Barb did catering for many years.
She enjoyed going to camp, traveling to Las Vegas, going to the casinos and playing bingo.
Barbara was a active member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and taught CCD for many years. Barbara’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Barbara A. Helgemo is survived by: daughters, Jean Helgemo (Randy Mackie) of Escanaba and Dianne (Timothy) Rich of Wyoming, Mich.; son, James Helgemo (Sue Koch) of Escanaba; five grandchildren, Chad (Amanda) Rich, John (Carla) Rich, Brian (Kelli Meyers) Helgemo, Lisa Helgemo, and Scott Helgemo; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Mary and Herbert Johnson, husband Richard, she was preceded in death by great-grandson Richard James Rich.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial for Barbara A. Helgemo will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Rick Courier officiating. A luncheon will follow the funeral services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
